Remember the Hungry on Long Island
Hunger is everywhere on Long Island. According to Long Island Cares, the Hauppauge food bank established by the late songwriter, Harry Chapin:
-
More than a quarter of a million Long Island residents – including some 111,000 children are – hungry or food insecure.
-
Nearly 65,000 different people receive emergency food assistance each week.
-
More than half of the people on Long Island seeking food assistance have to choose between paying for food and paying rent or mortgage. In addition, over one-third must choose between food and medicine or medical care.
Each month, our donations of non-perishable food are delivered to a different local food pantry – breakfast cereal, canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, dessert and snack items, and more.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
“Give your food to the hungry and care for the homeless. Then your light will shine in the dark; your darkest hour will be like the noonday sun.”
-- Isaiah 58:10 (Contemporary English Version)
Church School News
The children of the Church School will be making "Thinking of You" cards and "Get Well" cards for the people in the congregation with the theme "Let Your Light Shine."
We are also asking if any one would like to start an instrumental group with some of our children. The children have their instruments and would like to play simple hymns for special occasions.
Our Church School curriculum is Bible-based, with an emphasis on what the children should learn by the time they are ready for the ninth-grade Confirmation Class.
One of our favorite pictures is of Jesus encircled by children. How fortunate we are to be able to share with our children the stories of Jesus and of his love for us all: children of all ages and backgrounds!
We welcome new families to join us.
